"Rock Wit Me" is an R&B song produced by Jose Sanchez & Frank Rodriguez for Swing Central Entertainment. It was recorded by Tha' Rayne in 2001, as a duet, comprising Yummy Bingham and Quana.
The song was meant to be Tha' Rayne's debut single. The promo 12" single was distributed on March 29, and the vinyl hit the stores on April 23, 2002. The promo CD single followed but the radio impact was pushed back to autumn 2002, when Arista decided to have the song remixed by P. Diddy. For this remix, Tha' Rayen singers, Yummy Bingham and Quana, re-recorded the song in studio. The remix emerged on few mixtapes.
In August 2002, Tha' Rayne added a third member (a non-singing DJ). The release of "Rock Wit Me" was pushed back to spring and the video was scheduled for a January 2003 shot, but then Arista decided to wait and see how the single would do before shooting the video.
After P. Diddy left Arista Records, the label decided to have the song remixed by Jermaine Dupri, but due to the success of Beyoncé's Crazy In Love, Arista finally hesitated about Tha' Rayne debut single choice : they weren't sure about keep releasing "Rock Wit Me" (JD Mix) or "Didn't You Know", produced by Rich Harrison, like Beyoncé's hit.
On April 30, 2003, Arista distributed two versions of the new group's promo single. The first version had "Rock Wit Me" on side A and "Didn't You Know" on side B. The second version had the opposite. Finally, DJs gave more buzz to "Didn't You Know", which was then picked out to be the group's debut radio single.
