Rock Island Blues Band

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Before Johnny Favourite, before the Jive Kings before the Big Swing resurrection there was the Rock Island Blues Band. Since 1987, RIBB has been playing the best in Soul & R'n'B, pushing that fat horn sound and packing the dancefloor.

Joey Kitson's romance with rhythm and blues and soul music is deep-seated, going as far back as highschool. His love for R'n'B luminaries the likes of Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, and Wilson Pickett (to name a select reverential few) crossed with his penchant for showmanship the likes of the Blues Brothers, Tower of Power and the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown left a young impressionable Joey Kitson with a desire to entertain the masses. This genre of music as popular as it was on a world level, was definitely lacking in the PEI music scene. A fact that Kitson would soon amend.

Enter stage right - The Rock Island Blues Band. Over the years, members may have come and gone, faces changed and audiences have grown... but the purpose, and direction of the band as crafted by Kitson has been resolute.
