Rock Ford plantation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rock Ford plantation is a tourist destination in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The 1794 Georgian style brick mansion stands remarkably preserved and essentially unchanged architecturally. All four floors conform to the same plan - a center hall and four corner rooms - as was typical of the period.

Rock Ford Plantation was built by General Edward Hand, adjutant general to George Washington during the American revolution. It stands on the wooded banks of the Conestoga River one mile south of Lancaster.

Visitors walk the original 18th century floors and see original rails, shutters, doors, cupboards, paneling and window panes.

The building is open April through October, Thursday through Sunday, 11 AM to 3 PM, with the last guided tour at 3 PM.
