Tyler Robert Neil Perry Is a bassist, vocalist and writer for Canadian Metal group Black Dawn.

Black Dawn is currently writing and organizing material for a debut album, tenitively titled 'Emerald Fusion'. No recording or release dates have been confirmed, though rumors suggest the band may begin recording near June 2006.

Growing Up

Rob was raised by a single mother in a low income family in the outskirts of rural Nova Scotia. Through his youth, he was greatly influenced by the likes of 2 Pac and various other rap artists exposed to him by friends and family members. Though it was obvious early on that he had a talent for writing, he insisted that his life would be dedicated to music -- in any form. By the eighth grade he had already established a muscial gathering: a comedy-rap troup known as 'The Tokin Gunnz'.

At age 16, a girlfriend exposed Rob to Metallica for the very first time. After watching VH1's 'Behind The Music' feature on the band, he felt a connection with the late Cliff Burton and decided to try playing bass. By the time he was 18, Rob was well versed in Bass and Guitar and could play the majority of the Metallica catologue. It was around this time that his tastes started reaching outward; though he had a great love for metal, he was also very intrigued by the political abilities of Hip Hop and the unique sounds of funk and blues. After listening to the Infectious Grooves album "Sarsippius' Ark", Rob had found a new idol in a bassist who shared the same name, Robert Trujillo (Ironically, Trujillo was named the new bassist for Metallica in 2003.)

Rob became part of his first band shortly after learning to play bass; in fact he agreed to join the band before he owned or could even play the instrument. "The Nothing" played only one gig in their home county of Shelburne at a show which is considered the WrestleMania of local music, Hub Bub Go. The set was a disaster. Rob had never sung publicly before (or even at practice much) and was only a few days removed from a major jaw surgery. Several days after the failed gig, he and friend/guitarist Daniel Hushard quit the band, citing personal reasons for their departure.

Black Dawn

After leaving 'The Nothing', Rob and Hushard were part of a band called "Zodiac" which, although hyped to be the 'next big thing', never really took off. They played one show and went on a hiatus which would see them virtually inactive for the next three months until Rob and Hushard left Barrington, Nova Scotia, (the home base for the project) and relocated to the near-by town of Shelburne. It was there that the two joined forces with Adam Rogers and Daniel MacKay, forming what would be the final version of Zodiac.

After two months, the relationship between Rob and Hushard soured, ultimately causing a mutual parting of ways between Hushard and the Zodiac crew. The exact circumstances of the departure are undisclosed, however certain sources suggest that it may have been in conjunction with the suggested name change for the band. Less than an hour after Hushard's official departure, Zodiac officially changed their name to Black Dawn.

Within the next few months, Black Dawn played a number of gigs, landing a closing spot at the biggest show in the Province (and Rob's second appearance at) Hub Bub Go. After much persistance from Rob, the band agreed to work on material for an album which is rumored to begin recording around June 2006 (though no dates have been truly confirmed).

Personal Life

Rob is quiet, soft-spoken, and highly spiritual. Though he was raised primarily through Christianity-based ethics, he fully adapted to Christianity at age 13. However by age 16 he had completely rid himself of any association with Organized Religion and to this day is an outspoken critic of the moral values and social fibres therein. It is true that he practices no religion, however he has studied many different sets of belief, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Scientology. He frequently makes references to the likes of David Wilcock and Edgar Cayce as "the closest you'll get to the truth."

Rob is an avid writer and is rarely seen without a pen and notebook in hand. He has shown interest in writing a movie script, and is also interested in acting and directing.
