I became involved primarily because of the kind welcome I received, and the initial assumption that I knew what I was doing, even when I was a clueless newbie. Various factors have confirmed my initial impulse to stick with it.

• The Wikipedia project's implied faith in the positive balance of human nature.
• It's an overwhelmingly constructive project (conspiracy theories notwithstanding).
• My sanguine eventualism.
• My professional interest in content management.
• I try to contribute civilly, and have mostly encountered civility in return: I think this is vital in a collaborative voluntary project such as Wikipedia.
