Robesonia, Pennsylvania

Robesonia is a borough in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,036 at the 2000 census. The majority of the area's population resides out of the borough boundaries. Once famous for its iron furnaces (circa 1777-1845), the town is now supported by large industry. Several of the largest employers include Associated Wholesalers, Inc., a food distributor, Magnatech International, and Snap-On Tools. The town is also famous for its Pennsylvania German-style pottery, also sometimes called redware. One local artist, Lester Breininger, has achieved national fame for his pottery.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,036 people, 830 households, and 576 families residing in the borough. The population density was 883.3/km² (2,293.6/mi²). There were 858 housing units at an average density of 372.2/km² (966.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 96.95% White, 1.03% African American, 0.44% Asian, 0.88% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.06% of the population.
There were 830 households out of which 33.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.1% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the borough the population was spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.5 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $44,943, and the median income for a family was $52,150. Males had a median income of $35,844 versus $24,141 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $24,093. About 3.3% of families and 5.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.2% of those under age 18 and 3.7% of those age 65 or over.
