Roberto de Oliveira Campos

Roberto de Oliveira Campos (1917-2001) - Brazilian economist and diplomat promoter of pragmatic, democratic nationalism in Brazil.
Campos was born in Cuiaba, in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. He initially planned to enter the priesthood, and received degrees in Philosophy and Theology from the Catholic Seminary of Guaxup. He extended his graduate studies at George Washington University and New York University. In 1939 Campos entered the Brazilian foreign service.
Later, he served in a number of capacities, as Brazilian ambassador to the U.S. and to the UK, as cabinet minister, and legislator.
