Robert Yates (NASCAR Team Owner)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert Yates is the owner of the longtime NASCAR Nextel Cup Series team Robert Yates Racing. He purchased the team from Harry Rainer in 1989.
Robert Yates currently owns NASCAR drivers Dale Jarrett and David Gilliland. In 1995, Yates owned the #28 Havoline car driven by Ernie Irvan, who was in a wreck and unable to drive for Yates the rest of the 1995 season.
Dale Jarrett was at the time driving for Joe Gibbs and the #18 Interstate Batteries car. Robert Yates managed to persuade Dale to join him in 1995 and take over Ernie Irvan's car. When the 1996 season came, Irvan was ready to race again and Yates formed a second team to be led by Dale Jarrett.
Yates' new team was the #88 Ford Quality Care car driven by Jarrett. In the first race of the '96 season, Jarrett won his second Daytona 500. Jarrett was a contender for the championship and in 1999 the dream came true for Robert Yates and Dale Jarrett.
Robert Yates was given his first championship in NASCAR in 1999 with Dale Jarrett
Elliott Sadler joined Robert Yates Racing for the 2003 season and won two races for Yates in 2004.
Yates' last win was with Dale Jarrett at Talladega Superspeedway in October 2005.
