[edit] Early years

Wilonsky was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School after a career noted for success in the arts (drama) and athletics (swimming). He matriculated at the University of Texas at Austin and received his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1990. Notably, during his senior year he served as the managing editor of The Daily Texan, the largest student newspaper in the United States.

[edit] Print journalism

After graduation, Wilonsky was hired by the Dallas Times-Herald, but moved to the weekly Dallas Observer after the former ceased publication in 1991. He has worked for the Dallas Observer since, aside from a one-year transfer stint with its sister paper, the Los Angeles New Times. Wilonsky has filled various, often-overlapping, roles for the Dallas Observer over the years, serving as feature writer, music editor, film critic, Katie Award-winning sports columnist, and presently as pop culture editor. In March 2006, he oversaw the launching of the Dallas Observer's weblog, Unfair Park, for which he continues to be the editor and primary contributor. He also has contributed freelance writing to various publications, including Salon and American Way.

[edit] Higher Definition

In 2003, Wilonsky was hired as the host of HDNet’s new talk show, Higher Definition. The half-hour program initially followed the format of the host engaging in recreational activities with the guests while interviewing them about the impact of high-definition video on entertainment; early episodes featured him playing pool with Edward Burns and basketball with Mark Wahlberg. However, the show quickly adopted a more conventional, sit-down format, showcasing Wilonsky’s well-honed interviewing skills and carefully researched preparation.

[edit] Radio

For several years, Wilonsky has been a frequent guest on The Hardline, the popular afternoon drive-time show on the Dallas radio station 1310 The Ticket, contributing pop culture analysis and commentary.
