Robert Rabinovitch

Robert Rabinovitch Ph.D , MA , B.Comm. (born 1943) is the current head of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, appointed by Jean Chrétien in 1999.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, he graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics in 1964, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Arts in 1965, and from the University of Pennsylvania with a Ph.D. in Economics and Finance in 1971.

He was Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Claridge Inc, from 1987 to 1999. He worked for the Canadian Federal Government from 1968 to 1986 in various positions:

He has been a member of the Board of Governors of McGill University since January 1997, and is currently the head of the CBC.

He is married with two children.

As CEO of CBC, he was responsible for an eight week lockout of CBC unionized employees, in the autumn of 2005.

In December 2006, a comical video. of an appearance by Rabinovitch testifying in the House of Commons with satiric voice-over was distributed on the internet.
