Robert Blackwill
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert Blackwill (b. 1939) is an American lobbyist and retired diplomat. Blackwill was the United States Ambassador to India (2001-2003), and United States National Security Council Deputy for Iraq (2003-2004), where he was a liaison between Paul Bremer and Condoleezza Rice.
Although officially he was said to have informed President Bush several months ahead that he "would enter the private sector when the President had won his second term," his resignation from his position on November 6, 2004 was characterized as surprising and unexpected by the Washington Post and other media, and was accompanied by press allegations of professional difficulties and misconduct, and by news coverage that his resignation had been demanded of the White House by the top levels of the State Department. (See, e.g., "Ex-Adviser Reportedly Hurt Embassy Aide," By Glenn Kessler and Al Kamen, Washington Post, Friday, November 12, 2004; Page A060). He is now president of Barbour Griffith & Rogers International, a Washington lobbying firm.
