Robert Atwan

Robert Atwan (born November 2, 1940, Paterson, New Jersey) is an essayist and editor of several anthologies of literature. He attended Seton Hall University and Rutgers University.

He compiles the annual best-selling The Best American Essays, published by the Houghton Mifflin, for which he selects and edits the best short prose works, along with a guest co-editor.

Previous guest editors have included Susan Sontag, Jamaica Kincaid, Ian Frazier, Stephen Jay Gould and Susan Orlean; David Foster Wallace will guest-edit the 2007 volume.
