Robert Altemeyer

Robert Altemeyer, also known as Bob Altemeyer, is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Manitoba.

He has written extensively on authoritarianism and refined the theory into the concept (and measure) of Right Wing Authoritarianism. His books include:

  • Enemies of Freedom: Understanding Right-Wing Authoritarianism (1988)
  • The Authoritarian Specter (1997), which examines the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995 (ISBN 0674053052)
  • Amazing Conversions: Why Some Turn to Faith and Others Abandon Religion (1997)
  • Atheists: A Groundbreaking Study of America's Nonbelievers (2006).

Altemeyer is extensively referenced in John W. Dean's 2006 book, Conservatives Without Conscience.
