From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Robarts Research Institute is a non-profit medical research facility in London, Ontario with a staff of more than 600 people. Robarts scientists include physicians and physicists, biologists and biomedical engineers, and the range of diseases they study include heart disease, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimers, and many forms of cancer. It is also well known for its medical imaging research. Robarts is Canada's only independent medical research centre - with neither funding nor governance from a university or hospital.
The institute was founded in 1986, under the guidance of neurologist Dr. Henry Barnett, most famous for his work with Aspirin as a preventive therapy for heart attack and stroke. Dr. Mark Poznasky became scientific director in 1993 and was recently awarded the Order of Canada for his work.
