Rob Moore (field hockey player)

Rob Moore (born May 21, 1981 in Winchester) is an English field hockey midfielder and forward, who was a member of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team that finished ninth in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece and headhunter for the Robert Walters Financial Services Contract team.

Moore, nicknamed Gumbo, played club hockey for Trojans and Havant, and is currently with Surbiton. His club grants him accommodation which he shares with a member of his team and the club kitchen hand. He represented his country at the tender of age of 16 when he represented the England Under 21 side against Belgium.

Since that time Moore has gone from strength to strength. He attended King Edward's College in Southampton and played for the first XI as well as achieving academic excellenve illustrated by his A level grades, as in Economics and Biology and a B in Home Economics.

As of August 2006, Moore has achieved 19 Great Britain and 62 England caps. He debuted for England in February 2003, funnily enough against Belgium. He has scored 13 goals for England which is a little light considering he plays in the midfield and up front. He made his debut against Australia which he considers his toughest opponents.

Sponsored by Gryphon, he enjoys the maneuvarability and power of the stick. He often employs the Pakistani backhander. Moore also enjoys the challenge of playing Pakistan, the Dutch and traditional rivals Germany. He has always admired Dutch player Teun de Nooijer for his touch and finesse. Moore often mentions his fear and resentment for the Pakistani captain Muhammed Saqlain, especially after his involvement in the unsitely incident with Craig Victory, in which Saqlain deliberately raised his stick and Craig suffered a broken jaw and other facial injuries.

In May 2005, Rob Moore or ‘head hunter’ to his colleagues works at Robert Walters in London as an Research Assistant. Since joining the company he has consistently broken targets and become an integral part of their Banking Operations division. To date he has successfully headhunted a number of senior analysts and he holds Mathew Bartley in the Banking Operations Contract Team as one of his most respected colleagues.
