[edit] Minn
RE: University of Minnesota figures, I got all the numbers and rankings from the Nov 14, 2005 edition of the Columbus Dispatch. Front page. Maybe I should have cited my source, but data from the previous years hasn't been cited, either. Thanks for fact-checking me -- Wild Goose 22:38, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
- If you can find accurate numbers that do not include non-degree students, by all means, make the appropriate edits. And yeah, I've spent most of my life here in Bustown. Go Clippers! Wild Goose 13:59, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Borking
Thanks for the heads up r.e. Bork - I added some suggestions why I feel additional explanatory text is required in the comments page, but I have not yet reverted, pending feedback from yourself and other users. The crux of my argument is that the article already contains three competing definitions of the verb, and this can only be resolved by arbitrarily selecting one and removing the others (which is unencyclopaedic) or offering a discussion of alternative uses of the verb which acknowledges and resolves the tension between the currently-offered meanings. [edit] Re: UC
I didn't, if you look at the version I reverted you'll see that while it was in the source code it did not appear in the article, because "sports teams" isn't a valid section in the template. Joe D (t) 04:19, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] John Lott
Check the page history for John Lott and you'll see why I think the change I reverted was done by a sockpuppet - there's an unending stream of anonymous or "single edit" users trying to remove information from the article. The talk page has the background. -- Danny Yee 05:29, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] AFD: Budgetax
You going to finish off the Deletion Process for Budgetax?
Not to worry, I finished it myself. Please note you need to follow the above guidelines including creating the talk page and the log entry or the AfD won't complete --Swamp Ig 08:25, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hampshire College
The college's logo is orange and blue, so that could be what that's about (but I notice someone's just removed it). There's an argument for the frog as an unofficial mascot, but that's a little marginal. The basic issue is that the school doesn't really have any interscholastic sports (save Ultimate Frisbee, which is known as The Red Scare), hence no occasion for the usual trappings surrounding that. RadicalSubversiv E 03:16, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Categories
I removed the categories, because I created a new category, Category:Hampshire College, and placed the ones I removed there. evrik 15:32, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John Lott comment
"Let's not, and say you're abusive" - The user has reverted 3 times in as many days. That does not fall outside of allowed behavior, no matter how difficult it may be. You have accused a number of people of sockpuppetry. Maybe you could tone it down a little? [[User:Rkevins82|Rkevins82]] 19:23, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Puh-lease. That's the equivalent of a ten year old holding his hand two inches from your face saying "I'm not touching you. I'm not touching you. I can hold my hand here. I'm not touching you. It's OK if I do this. I'm not touching you". The mysterious Lott Squad with their identical lock-step mass revisions and identical refusals to discuss anything point by point and identical vague references to "previous discussions" are abusive and destructive and dedicated to establishing their deviant view of reality without compromise, and their ability to stay within the precise letter of the law in no way converts their efforts into anything positive for Wikipedia, nor does it convert their goal into anything more than obfuscation of Lott's history into a whitewash, nor does it turn them into contributing members of society who have earned our respect rather than disrespect. And I say this as a person who had in the long ago before the infestation of these pests been arguing for the article to explicitly describe Lott and his "More Guns Less Crime" work as "groundbreaking". [edit] Election Ishies
Hi there - I'll browse the discussion page and see if there's anything I can chime in on. I'm an editor of the article, but certainly wouldn't ever claim any ownership. And thanks for any and all typographic assistance, user page or otherwise! :) -- User:RyanFreisling @ 19:56, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hi again - I looked for your name on the discussion page of the main article, but saw no comments by you - can you point me to some of the issues you've raised without response? Thanks. -- User:RyanFreisling @ 20:34, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Re: Mercer, Franklin and Auglaize Counties - I've got no response nor disagreement with your observations, nor answers, as you haven't really asked any questions there. Re: the map, I can't answer that one, 'cause I didn't place the map there. [edit] Public Ivies
(Your comment) The change you made to photographs does not appear to have improved things at all. Rkevins82 02:08, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- When I first looked at the page, all the section edit links were jumbled at the bottom, under the "see also" section. I thought it was a problem with the pictures, so I rearranged them, and the problem went away. My browser might have freaked out or something (Firefox)...either way, I'm not attached to the edit, revert it if you don't like it. As of right now, the edit section links appear in the right places to me, and they didn't before. -- stillnotelf has a talk page 02:57, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Ah, they loaded fine on the right side in Firefox for me. Rkevins82 03:00, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

- I see on the Talk:Public Ivies page that you don't want the pictures there at all...I've also got no problem with deleting them wholesale if that's consensus :) -- stillnotelf has a talk page 03:00, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

- Well, there isn't consensus ot cut them. I thought since each of the colleges is linked to (and presumably has the images) they served no purpose. Rkevins82 03:02, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Voltaire Network

[edit] Ohio cities
Hi. I felt that the list was getting a bit out of control, as many here seem to do, so I trimmed it down to the dozen largest cities in the state. I take it there are some you think I shouldn't have deleted. If so, we should probably continue this discussion at Talk:Ohio, so that others can have a chance to weigh in. - EurekaLott 19:05, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 2004 U.S. Election
- I moved them to the 2004 vote suppression main article, where they are more in due proportion, and as you can see I left the less specious allegation there. Kevin Baastalk 20:26, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Columbia University - ????
In response to your message: "Why are you removing links?" - I am completely unaware of what you are talking about. I checked over my contributions page, and don't see anything on it. I also don't even recall visiting Columbia University's page. I am extremely confused. The only university page I visited recently was Colgate University, and I didn't remove any links, I added links to newspapers while I was writing a small article on Priit Vesilind. I'll check again, but am really at a loss for what you mean (?) ExRat 05:53, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- EDIT* - Also, I just looked at Colgate University's page and the only link I removed was a double link in the Journalist graduate section to ABC News - a link that I put there only moments before, then realized I had already linked ABC News in that section. ExRat 06:08, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Revision to Schlafly Biographical Information
I recently added biographical materials to and corrected a few factual errors in Wikipedia’s Phyllis Schlafly article. You deleted this information and restored the old version. What’s the thinking behind your changes?
Information on a person’s family background is certainly important in any biographical sketch. Both the Felsenthal and Critchlow biographies cited in the entry contain some information on Phyllis’ family. Rather than simply regurgitate the information from others, I undertook additional background research, principally using U.S. Census and city directory information. In my view, that’s the kind of value-added materials Wikipedia hopes to provide users.
My changes gave the following new information:
“Phyllis’ father, John Bruce Stewart, was a machinist and salesman of industrial equipment. John Bruce’s grandfather, a Presbyterian, came from Scotland to work in the coal mines of Pittston, Pennsylvania and his father, Andrew Francis, was a master mechanic with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad. John Bruce lost his salesman’s job in 1932 and couldn’t find permanent work until World War II. He was granted a patent in 1944 for a rotary engine.
Phyllis’ mother, Odile B. Dodge, was the daughter of a moderately successful attorney, Earnest C. Dodge. Odile attended college and, before her marriage, worked as a teacher at Hosmer Hall, a private school for girls in St. Louis. With her father’s business suffering during the Great Depression and her husband out of work, Odile worked as a librarian and a school teacher to keep both families afloat.
John Frederic Schalfly, Jr. came from a well-to-do St. Louis family. His grandfather, August, immigrated in 1854 from Switzerland as a child. Shortly after August’s arrival, his father died and the family resettled in Carlyle, Illinois. There the three brothers worked as clerks in a local grocery store. In 1876 August’s older brother married Catharine Hubert, the daughter of the county’s wealthiest family. Shortly thereafter, the three brothers founded the firm of Schlafly Bros., which dealt in groceries, Queensware, hardware, and agricultural implements. They later sold that business and began a banking business that was to make Augustus a millionaire.”
This new information and the information from the biographies contradict your assertion that Phyllis came from “a relatively poor family.” Her family was solidly middle class, albeit struggling during the Great Depression.
Second, you reassert that Phyllis Schlafly worked at the “Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) in Independence, Missouri.” In fact, as I wrote, she worked at the “St. Louis Ordnance Plant, run by the United States Cartridge Company, a subsidiary of the Olin Chemical Corporation.” This was the greatest small arms plant in U.S. military history. At its peak production period in 1943 the plant had 34,338 employees on its payroll. Where did you get the LCAAP information?

[edit] Ohio State template
Sure, no problem (though you are asking someone who attended OSU's greatest rival). However, before such a template is started, could you give me a list of articles that could serve as a startup for such a template (as well as categories these articles fall under)? I am using the UM template as an example. PentawingTalk 20:50, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nancy Zimpher
Yes, in fact the user I reverted removed everything from the page (i.e., the categories and the external link). By the time I realized I added in the vandalism, the other user removed the nonsense. Thanks for the heads up though. Pepsidrinka 06:36, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Kamil Idris
Kamil Idris is current Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is a distinguished alumnus of Ohio University. Please be careful when reverting. Thank you. --Edcolins 07:13, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's alright. It does happen to me as well... --Edcolins 20:47, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reference for Ohio State Oval
I noticed that you're working on an expansion of the Campus section of the Ohio State article with a paragraph detailing The Oval. I don't know if you've come across this, but here's a great reference on the Oval in Ohio State's early planning: [1] --Sam Harmon 19:03, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Notes v References (Moritz College of Law)
You cited WP:Footnotes as saying that the section at the bottom of a page with the endnotes and references should be entitled "Notes." [2] indicates that the section should be named "Notes and references." I don't recall seeing that section label used in an article but I know there is very inconsistent usage of the specific name of the section in which references are displayed thoughout Wikipedia. And it seems that the policies are inconsistent in this area, too. Sigh...
No big deal on the Moritz College of Law article. I'll leave it alone as I'm just happy to see the references there whether they're called Notes, References, or even something else. The label isn't too important. Thanks for adding the references! --ElKevbo 06:09, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Michigan Stadium
Thanks for the heads up, though that passage was added by an anon in the UM article. I simply moved it to the Michigan Stadium article as I didn't want to be bothered by it with regards to the UM article.
By the way, you asked about my assisting in an OSU template. Did you see my response to that inquiry? PentawingTalk 02:05, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- I got the chance to look at the template and do some minor corrections. However, if you want to see a template that includes scarlet or red, see the one for Cornell University. Personally, I think that template's color formatting works. PentawingTalk 04:52, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alumni
I found the recent additions through the business school's list of alumni awards and the bios of the dean's advisory council. The political science department had some alumni awards also. The quarterly newsletter from the history department also lists where a lot of the their doctoral graduates are. Other alumni I found via wikipedia links or just plain googling Ohio State--Sam Harmon 20:39, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bill Davis Stadium
Nice work on updating my article I started on Bill Davis Stadium. Thanks! Go Bucks! OSU80 05:41, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- Glad to help! I was working on an OSU baseball sub-article. I'm trying to make articles of some other OSU related buildings. Rkevins82 22:06, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bill Krause
I found this on Bill Krause. He died in 1986, but Ian McKellen is playing him in The Band Played On. I guess I'd classify him as a "weak keep." What are your thougts? BTW, thanks for the calming note concerning the recent spate of vandalism and Miami of Ohio nonsense. Sorry that I haven't done much on the to-do list lately but have been swamped with work. Cheers, --Sam Harmon 18:39, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I'm going to reinstate him, but in the "others" section. I think he's more similar to Faye Wattleton than to elected politicos. --Sam Harmon 18:53, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Spartan Stadium
Is there a reason why you blanked the "memorable games" section? Furthermore the image tag for UMvsMac was changed to historical photograph. Images from MSU's archive are allowed to be published online so long as they are properly sourced.
- I was a student at Michigan State just last year and while creating another page with old pictures (some 100 of them) I actually went down to the archives office in Conrad Hall and was told by the staff that all pictures available to the public may be reproduced (as long as not for commercial gain) so long as I cite that the picture came from the archives. So as far as the picture it's certainly allowed to be used but finding the correct wikipedia tag for it is the problem. I put self created because I scanned it, but putting "historical photo" would be just as correct. Furthermore in a few years it will fall under the "author died 100 years ago" tag. So there are multiple choices, no one is absoulutely correct, but all convey the message that the picture is legit. AStudent 17:00, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jerry Lucas
RV - Warm thanks for getting back to me with info responding to my query about Jerry Lucas and intelligence. I have fond memories about JL as a player and recall his first effort at writing a memory book (I see the list has expanded since then). I also recall stories about his enthusiasm for magic tricks, including one in which the young Jerry, excited at learning a new trick, ran to his mother shouting out, 'pick a card' , ignoring the fact that she was locked in the bathroom at the time.
JL certainly has an active mind, a rare talent at memorisation, and a keen wish to communicate his methods. So I suppose you are justified at claiming he has an unusual intelligence. What's more, the combination 'basketball and intelligence' is unusal enough to merit mention, imho.
Btw I really hadn't wanted to challenge the claim (that should be clear). I simply feel that the claim requires substantiation. It is also only fair that the person making the claim in the article take responsibility for research.
peace, --Philopedia 23:03, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] MPA / MPP and similar degrees
I have seen some discussion on these pages. But the fact is that these pages do not provide any substnatial information and need development. Your attitude and fast deleting of new additions do not enable anybody to contribute, discusss and develop these pages. I am just wandering what you suggest in this regard. HOw we can make sure that the web pages are added, developed, expanded and made a useful source of information? Your contribution is important and I think as an administrator you should facilitate discussion, not halt it. You can put individual message to me about this. SO many people need information about these degrees and have so little information. And your attitude has not been helpful so far. --Rembranth 15:56, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- First off: I am not an administrator. I have never claimed to be, nor wish to be. Second: your are encouraged to be bold when you edit pages, as am I. Additions that I see as without merit I delete. If there is some value in them, I generally try to improve them. The sections you are referring to were boosterish, not necessarilly correct, and of questionable value. I am willing to keep working on these article in any was that I can, as I encourage you to do. It also appears that Roman123 and you are the same person. Do you have a reason for doing this? Rkevins82 19:13, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Our Vandal
I've already humored him and posted external links for all of the Nobel and Pulitzer winners on the talk page, and he's still vandalized the page twice since. This guy is beyond redemption and IMO is somewhat disturbed emotionally. The fact is that no other alumni page verifies every single entry, nor should we have to. I might add this guy has no apparent problem with Nobel sections on other university alumni pages. If this guy has a question about someone, he can bring it up for discussion on the talk page. Nobody should have to waste time jumping through hoops to satisfy the needs of a known and repeated vandal. Besides, it's not the validity or the verifiability of these people that's driving this guy. It's their very existence--and the lack of similar people at you know where--that is motivating him, and as such no amount of pandering is going to satisfy him.--Sam Harmon 15:22, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- It will be minimal (as you've done with Pulitzer, Nobel). Rkevins82 15:24, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- No problem. I would suggest posting the verifications on the talk page for a couple of reasons: not cluttering up the main article and not setting a precedent. My guess is that if he expands his focus it will only be to the more prominent/prestigious entries. If you remember, he once vandalized the academia section by removing only the entries from prestigious universities while leaving the others in place. Any guesses as to his underlying motivation? BTW, all of the people that I found were done through various web searches. If you have any questions on specific people, let me know, and I'll be happy to help.--Sam Harmon 16:01, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- As to motivations, one can only speculate. I am surprised that the editor went to the length of registering as a user and writing some text on his user page. Only time will tell what he intends. When I make the references for the talk page, I will put them in ref format, so we can transfer them if we want at a later date. Rkevins82 17:09, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
-
Ha, told you he had a screw loose. Have you checked out today's tantrum, which even includes an appeal to the administrators for assistance.--Sam Harmon 03:43, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
I really think it's time to request the administrators to lock down the alumni page. At the very least, it would prevent him from using an anonymous dial up connection to avoid accountability. Do you know how to initiate such a request? --Sam Harmon 19:48, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Just a thought
Hey man, User:Sam Harmon and I were having a conversation about this template you created. What do you think about making the letters inside the template bold so they're easier to read. I was just compairing the Ohio State template to the M*chigan one. Their's (and I say that as if they are the enemy) is lighter and more visible. Agreed? Go Bucks! Thanks for uploading Image:Tedginn.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Filip Bondy got back to me about his source for the statement that Rutgers declined Ivy membership. He got his information from Wikipedia. Thought you'd like to know.... JDoorjam Talk 05:36, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm in your boat: I find the topic interesting but have nothing personal at stake in whether Rutgers declined membership to the Ivy League. And now I'm intrigued about this dilemma I'd never considered, that reporters would start using Wikipedia as a source without mentioning it, and that we now have to ask our sources about their sources because it might be us. Dizzying. Cheers, JDoorjam Talk 06:27, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
