Rizvi

Rizvi or Rizavi or Ridavi/Ridhavi (Arabic) is a surname commonly associated with Shia muslims who are the descendants of 8th imam (who was a descendant of the prophet Muhammad (SAWW)), Imam ALI RAZA A.S (PBUH), also known as Ali_ar-Rida. However, there also exists a community of Sunni Rizvis in South Asia. Both Sunnis and Shias are entitled to use the prefix Syed (or it's synonyms) in front of their name.
A few famous members of the Rizvi clan are:
- Shaukat_Hussain_Rizvi - an actor & director
- Muhammed Gulzar Rizvi - a renowned social worker of Karachi, Pakistan who established institutions (Mafade Aamma Computer Center & Al Haq Institute of Management Sciences) and pioneered producing computer literature in Urdu (Computer Digest, Amali Science and Parcham) to propagate computer literacy for the less privileged class in early eighties.
- Khurshid Rizvi - a famous Urdu poet of the present time.
- Raza Rizvi is a well known musician.
- Professor Hassan Askari Rizvi - a well known figure in Political Science, Journalism and Education
