Rizon is a large IRC network, popular perhaps due to the allowance of channels for sharing warez and other copyrighted material for free.

In early 2004, mIRCX and Aniverse IRC networks were DDoS'd and forced to shut down operations permanently (Aniverse operates again now). This caused approximately 8,000-10,000 irc users of various anime fansubbing channels to migrate to Rizon. This move forced Rizon to increase number of connected servers, as well as become a target for more DDoS attacks.

Rizon has an average of around 20,000 users online.

[edit] Rizon Services

Rizon utilizes anope IRC services. Listed below are some features:

  • ChanServ - Channel service, allows to register a channel and manage it.
  • NickServ - Register your nick, to prevent others from using it.
  • MemoServ - Send messages to users when they're offline or in server-side ignore.
  • BotServ - Helps you manage the available free bots.
  • HostServ - Register a vhost etc.

[edit] ISP BAN - *ttnet.net.tr

Recently Rizon has K-lined (blocked) Türk Telekoms (ttnet) entire range of IPs (*ttnet.net.tr). Rizon staff explained that the action was a result of the halo caused by the spam bots using a range of dynamic IPs. Initial measures that had been placed prior to the ISP-wide k-line such as mandatory ident to connect had proven to be ineffective. Also inquiries to ttnet undertaken by Rizon regarding the spambots were unanswered. Consequently, Rizon staff explain that the kline will stay in place so long as there are spam bots.
