River Rafting Ride

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A River Rafting Ride is an amusement ride that simulates whitewater rafting. In this sport, passengers board a raft, and try to make there way through huge rapids of water. Rapids are similar to waves. The raft lowers, and raises in the water because the water is high in some places, and lower in other places. Well, amusement parks have made an actual ride based on this sport. People are not paddling down the river with oars, but they are just sitting waiting to get wet through the rapids, water jets, and waterfalls.

[edit] The Rafts

The raft will usually be big enough to accompany many people per raft. Rafts are usually round compared to the sporting raft which is usally rectangular. Some rafts accompany 12 riders] while smaller rafts might only carry 6 riders. Each raft will have a piece of rubber underneath. The reason is for safety because the raft along it's journey might bump into objects. Some rafts have a circular metal bar in the middle of the raft. This is just a place to hold on to, and of course most rafts have a seatbelt for the riders to stay safely in place.

[edit] Rafts Journey

After the rides station, the raft will usually enter into tame waters. Shortly after that, the raft will enter troubled waters. Thus, you will find yourself water made rapids. Usually rapids are made by the amusement park having large cyclinder tubes underneath the water. The bigger the tube, the bigger the rapids. Along with the rapids, there will be waterfalls. Waterfalls are just streams of water usually coming down from a tall structure.

The riders never really know if the raft will go under them or not. Some parks will put barriers near the waterfalls, so you do not get very close to them. Lastly, there could be water jets on these rapid rides. Water jets are pressurized water. The person will spray gushes of water through a tube, or spray gun at the raft as it passes by. This is usually a guarantee that they do get wet.
