River Doon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The River Doon (Gd: Abhainn Dhùin), flows 23 miles from Loch Doon in Ayrshire, Scotland, to join the Firth of Clyde just south of Ayr. It flows north-west, plassing close to the town of Dalmellington, and through the villages of Patna, Dalrymple, and also Alloway, the place of birth of Robert Burns.
Loch Doon itself was dammed in the 1930s to provide water to the Galloway Hydro Electric Scheme, operated today by Scottish Power.
