Rivaled Fate (Abbreviated as RF) is a online Role-playing game that is currently free to play. It was developed by a single programmer, who goes by the alias of Valane, during the year 2003. It is currently in its second version after the successful first version of Rivaled Fate which had a fair sized userbase, claimed by the administration to be 25,000 users when the first version ended, and the second version was ready to come out.

The game is browser based and inspired by Final Fantasy, it has a lot in common with current browser based stratergy games while adding many more unseen and innovative systems to the norm, from multiple enemy battles to the 'crestia' system (somewhat similar to the Materia system and common rune alignment). However the game is still currently in beta and has many bugs and development issues that the administration ask to be reported.

[edit] Nations

There are six known nations in Rivaled Fate, Asero, Tilar, LuKoven, Koven, Vane and Uriahar.

Asero
Asero is an island nation consisting of one large island and a small island chain to its east. The climate is tropical and the citizenry are relaxed and easy going. For the most part it remains isolated from the other nations, although there is some trade with Uriaher.
Many years ago the eastern island chain was ravaged by a vicious flesh eating virus. The islands were effectively quarantined to prevent the virus from spreading to the main island. To this day it is still not really known the extent of the damage on the small islands, how many survivors there may be or what state they might be in, but it is still deemed to dangerous for the most part to venture there.
A team of mages from Koven set up an embassy on the large islands east coast and part of the agreement with Asero that allowed their presence was that they would use their magic to protect themselves and make an expedition to the eastern islands to evaluate the situation. What Koven would get out of this is unknown.
Tilar
Tilar is a beautiful natural landscape full of valleys, forests, waterfalls and wonderful views to behold. Unfortunately a lot of the western land was ravaged by the Vane-Koven War. Forests, farms and even towns were laid waste and are now such famous battlegrounds as Keidane, Fas-te and Errean.
As the war in the west intensified, the Tilian people were forced to abandon many of their western settlements and move east. There is now something of a refugee problem in the country, and while since the end of the war many have been resettled in the west it will be a long time before it is sufficiently rebuilt to properly house all of them.
The forests of Tilar are a favourite hangout of bandits and thieves, who take advantage of the combination of the geography and the nation’s relaxed laws.
LuKoven
Also known as New-Koven, the nation of LuKoven was formed when Koven became two nations after a radical movement by many of the Koven people, initiated by one of Kovens leading mages. At first he tried to talk the Koven government round to his point of view, that the war was pointless and damaging to the country and its people, and he succeeded in convincing two of the other leading mages but this was not enough to sway the combine and one of the rebel mages became so sick of the politics that he with his two colleagues split from the combine to form LuKoven, where they aimed to setup a utopian civilisation, immediately ending their part in the war with Vane.
Whether they succeeded in this aim is a matter of debate, but a more hotly contested topic is that of the truth behind the war and the remaining Koven combine members. Rumours persist of sinister motives for the war and even dark magical leanings within the combine itself, though there is as of yet no hard evidence towards this.
Koven
Koven is governed by a combine of wise mages. Each mage chooses his successor from among his apprentices. it is a nation that places great importance in magical study, its capital home to one of the largest magical academies which itself contains the worlds greatest library.
Koven had for many years been at war with the nation of Vane, however certain people began to question the combines motives and actions in the war and the whole western region of the country seceded and formed its own nation of LuKoven. Once the west split, Koven found itself unable to compete with Vane on the battlefield and was forced to negotiate a ceasefire.
The combine was traditionally made up of thirteen mages, but three seceded with the split of LuKoven and so currently the combine is ten strong. They govern from a towering and majestic building at the centre of Koven’s Capital city. Relations with Lukoven have become stable of recent years, and while LuKoven will always be wary of its parent state, dialogue and trade between the nations is free and open.
Vane
Vane is a very proud nation ruled over by a king well known throughout the world. It is the home of Valane, one of the Paragon Knights. The Paragon Knights are an elite and ancient order of warriors schooled through the ages by the house of Vane.
Vane’s territory is the largest of the six known nations and has the highest population. It has several urban centres that grew from the Paragon Knights’ ancient walled City-Strongholds, but most having grown considerably outside their original boundaries. It is primarily an agricultural nation but maintains its wealth through the artifacts and fortunes inherited down through the Paragon Knights. Much of its resources are imported from the neighboring Uriaher.
Vane has a long standing enmity with Koven. While the nations are now in a state of ceasefire, forced by Koven’s domestic situation, they had previously been at war for many years and so no love is lost between them. Their relations with all other nations are largely peaceful.
Uriahar
Uriaher is a small country, run by an elected council. None of its population centers could really be described as cities. The council is based in the largest town of <<Uriahercapital>>. It has the smallest population in the region and little military to speak of beyond town militias and so remains neutral in conflicts wherever possible. It is a very rural country, but a land rich in natural resource.
In the mountainous region to its east can be found coal, iron ore and other malleable materials. Uriaher does not possess the technology to process it on a large scale and so sells its resources to other nations, primarily Vane. Some blacksmiths of renown set up in Uriaher because of the low rates they can get on raw materials, and some very specialist and sort after pieces of equipment can be found there, if only in small supply.

[edit] Cresta Grid

Rivaled fate uses a system which allows the player to put items called Runes into one on many items called Cresta Grids. Each grid has a number of connections and for every Rune that is linked with another a Spell is created.
