Risdon Vale is an outer suburb of Hobart, capital of Tasmania, Australia. It is the location of Tasmania's only maximum security prison, Risdon Prison and Risdon Women's Prison. Prior to the development of the prisons, Risdon was used as a tourist destination. Risdon Vale also houses a mental hospital, primarily for persons deemed to be criminally insane and a danger to society, which is a short distance from the prison. Risdon Vale has a population of approximately 3,000. Risdon Vale has a reputation among Hobartians as being a low-income, crime-riddled suburb, rather similar to the other outer suburbs of Gagebrook and Bridgewater.

It is surrounded by bushlands.
