Ripper (hot dog)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Ripper is a style of hot dog indigenous to New Jersey, where the hot dog is deep fried in oil until the skin bursts open.

The originator of the style is Rutt's Hut in Clifton, New Jersey. The hot dogs are served with sauerkraut, mustard and a mustard-relish. A Ripper can be ordered one of several ways: as an "In and Outer" (just cooked 'til heated), a "Ripper" (cooked until the skins burst), a "Medium" (moderately well-done), a "Weller" (more well-done), the "Chode" (stubby and short), and the "Cremator" (black).
