Ringbearer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article concerns the attendant at a wedding. For the character in the Tolkien novels, see Ring-bearer.

In a formal wedding or a white wedding, a Ring Bearer or Page Boy is a special page, who:

  • Ring Bearer carries the wedding rings for the bridal party. This is almost always symbolic, with the ring bearer carrying a large white satin pillow on which imitation rings are sewn, the real wedding bands being in the safekeeping of the Best Man. If the real rings are used, they are tacked on with thread
  • Page Boys traditionally carry the brides train if she is wearing a dress with a long train

Flowergirls, Ring Bearers and Pageboys are usually nephews or young brothers (although they can also be nieces or sisters) and are generally no younger than about 5 nor older than 9 or 10. Children under 5 are unlikely to understand much of what's going on and may decide to act inappropriately just as the vows are about to be exchanged.
