[edit] Spice Girls article

Hi there,

I noticed you have been doing some work on the Spice Girls article and that you put 1993 as the year the band formed. I thought that it was in March 1994 when auditions were first held?? Do you have a source that verifies that SG first formed in 1993? Because I'm pretty sure it was in 1994 the band formed.

-- Sarz 23:51, 6 February 2006 (UTC) Hi

Yes, the first auditions were held in March 1993 according to their official book; Im currently going throught the Spice Girls page because it has a lot of inaccuracies - especially in the discography.

Take care xxx

[edit] Vandalism in Spice Girls article

-First, you don't need to put a lot sub-headlines
-Second, don't put unsourced pictures
-Third, we don't need a super-big article
-Fourth, there's no need to separate the group/solo discography
-Fifth, don't mess up the articles.
-Sixth, read the rules
-Seventh, continue ur bad work and I'll report you--Hotwiki 15:29, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

01 The subheadlines make it easier to navigate and the page becomes more user friendly. They are staying. 02 If I want your advice, i'll ask. 03 The article I added is slightly too big, and im in the process of editing it down and improving it. 04 There is every need to seperate the solo and spice discographies. Their solo careers are not relevant the group's work and aside from the fact most of the information is wrong, they belong on the girls own page. 05 I'll improve the poorly created articles as much as I like...lets hope we'll finally have a decent Spice page. 06 I have. 07 Report away.

Also the information you've edited back about Forever ie. the sales, will be changed back. Unless you can prove Forever sold 4million - which you cant because there was only ever one shipment of just over 1million copies, a large part of which simply werent sold - then I'll leave it alone. You can use Spice Discography as your source all you want but if you blindly and naively believe everything on a fan site then more fool you; James (who runs SD) knows there are inaccuracies and hopefully he'll get round to changing it.

If you were such an arrogant and egotistical person I may take notice of you - but carry on being as rude as you like, it just makes it easier to ignore you...

Thanks for uploading Image:SpiceEmma.JPG. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. [edit] Spice Girls article - March 2006

I just want to take a second to tell you how much I appreciate your hard work on the Spice Girls article. It's really come a long way. When I look at the article now compared to just a few weeks ago, it's at least a hundred times better, and that's due mostly to your contributions.

I just wanted to make sure you knew how thankful I was, since sometimes I step on your edits or undo them or "fix" them. It's nothing personal at all, and I know we're both working toward the same goal.

Again, I don't think I can say enough what a huge difference you've made in the quality of the article. adavidw 00:16, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Oh, and with regards to the "Impact" section, I explained a little on the talk page. But, basically, I'm concerned that a reader looking for a bias will be able to find some there. I think that possibly changing a little wording or adding another source or two could fix that. It's just that right now, it sounds a little too close to "Wow, the Spice Girls are totally awesome! Look at all they did!" In my mind, the impact is not at all in dispute. It's just that I'd like to come up with a better way to show in that section that that's not just what fans believe, it's what authoritative and knowledgeable people have declared.adavidw 00:25, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Lol no problem! I left a message thanking you (in the wrong section!) too...

BTW - I didnt take it personally, so dont worry! You're obviously a very nice person who knows that they are doing. I'd gladly take comeback from you - its only when you come across rude person like Hotwiki that I start to have a problem... Rimmers Mar 12th 00.30 (UTC)

that's funny Adavidw, because Rimmers was the one who make the Spice Girls article so big and full of unnecessary infos I think it was last month when he did that. Just for the record I removed a lot of paragraphs added by Rimmers last March 7, 2006.--hottie 13:09, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Everything since then is good edits. I stand by my statement above. Regardless of how the article got the way it was, it's getting better now, and that's due in large part to Rimmers' efforts (as well as yours, of course). adavidw 00:20, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Its true, I made a right balls up of it before; but I think Ive more than made up for it. I rewrote the entire page from top to bottom... and ive had a lot of compliments about it, so obviously ppl like it. Rimmers 01:19, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Ek--hottie 15:59, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

I left a note on the talk page, asking for mediation is the next step but it's really silly for that. You guys will work it out fine I think, if not the discussion page speaks for itself, and your talk page show willingness to work with people. TKE 22:10, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! Im willing to work with anyone...the more ideas the better, but there is simply no talking to that user. He's rude, arrogant and impossible to work with...I dont know why, but he seems to think he owns Wikipedia lol.. Rimmers 02:51, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
I put the link to the library on the Spice Girls page, and removed the merge. It'll work fine as it is now; both of your work is preserved and it's probably better to keep the music separated from the other releases since that's what they're know for. As for the other editor, he has used some heavy-handed language but it's because of protectionism over his projects. He responded fine to me, things seem to be resolved. Besides, he'll work with you in the end because it is out of good intentions, no matter the approach. I left one last note on the talk page, glad to help out. TKE 17:24, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey Rimmers, I had already seen what's going on. If a user takes a hostile tone, just ignore it. Reply as you normally would, keep a cool and civil head. This space is far too large to ever let one user get to you as far as hostility goes. I'm still a newbie as far as showing my face on talk pages and the like, so I'm learning as I go to. Just remember civility and good faith, and you'll be fine. Wikipedia should not be a stress on anyone other than a sysop! TKE 05:46, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question

Hi. You've done a lot of work on Corinne Bailey Rae and her related articles, so I was just wondering... where do you get all the information from regarding chart positions, sales figures, etc? I'd really appreciate your help, as I'd like to do similar for another artist. - Sweetie Petie 23:47, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi :) I get the sales info from MusicWeek - which is the industry magazine in Britain, and requires subcription. Its official btw. The chart positions, I get them from everywhere. You can follow the UK charts at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/index.shtml For the international charts, people post them on music forums like Chart Refugees etc xxx Rimmers 00:15, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, thanks for the info. Looks complicated! I guess I'll keep it minimal for now :) - Sweetie Petie 01:00, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spice Girls

Yes, an admin would be favourable. His attitude needs to meet Wikipedia:Civility, which it certainly does at specific times, however, is very negative on an all-around basis. We could always open an RFC, but it's a bit too early for that. He should be reported for now. —Eternal Equinox | talk 20:50, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Also, an article you have been working on, Geri Halliwell, has been nominated for Article Improvement Drive here. Consider voting for the article which requires much clean-up. —Eternal Equinox | talk 21:47, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Mary Jpromo picture.JPG

Please do not re-add this image as we already have free images of Mary J. Blige which should not be removed from the article. Arniep 17:32, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry but it is not fair use as we have a free alternative. Regards Arniep 23:32, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mary J Blige pics

Look, you're not calling any shots where the article is concerned. It existed fine with these pictures for months before you decided to chime in with your cyber correction pen, wanting to feel self important. Those two album covers represents the complete history of that project. I'm not at all concerned that you feel that it, by your eye view, makes the article look "messy." Furthermore, I wrote the majority of that entire article, therefore I don't take orders from you on how it should look. - DtownG 19:18, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:

Janet Jackson discography looks good, well done! The only thing that needs doing is bringing the album and song titles into compliance with Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Album_titles_and_band_names, e.g. "What Have You Done for Me Lately" and not "What Have You Done For Me Lately". Thanks for the comment! I appreciate your work as well, I saw what you had done with the Beverley Knight article (not a fan, just liked her recent cover of "Piece of My Heart") and also the article for Corinne Bailey Rae, whose album I bought my mum for mothers' day :). She played it once while I was in the room and I think Rae is a good musician, my favourite songs on it are "Like a Star" and "Choux Pastry Heart". Extraordinary Machine 18:00, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:TTUlt.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:TTUlt.JPG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 03:07, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] George Michael 25 Live

Hi there, and thank you so much for opening a page for the tour. Great idea and great work! I was bored at work and added the remainder of the dates from George's official site to your chart. I'll pop back in if I see anything else pertinent in my travels. WebTraveler 19:54, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:SpiceUpYourLifeCover.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). [edit] Please don't rename pages when it is not needed yet

We want to prevent unnecessary disambuigation, so start disambuigations when there are more already and not before. KittenKlub 21:32, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

The problem is that it breaks redirects and links, if there is no other page yet, it is the first page which gets the title, and any future pages get further disambuigation. This is done specifically to prevent too much disambuigation and to prevent link and redirect breaking. KittenKlub 21:35, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

I changed the title to Reflections: A Retrospective because that title was stated on the label's (Geffen) website. Admc2006 05:42, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] B'day

Hi there. I noticed that you have for the second or third time rearranged or changed some of the professional reviews in the B'day article. You keep replacing CANOE Jam! with a British review (I think it's The Times).

I've once again reverted this edit. I think that we need to keep a balance in the reviews, and try to incorporate reviews from different sources and countries. We have 7 from the U.S. Its only fair to have one from Canada too. There are already two from Britain. CANOE JAM! is a very prominent Canadian review/news journal. Orane (talkcont.) 03:24, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

To compromise, how about adding both reviews. Let's not restrict it to 10 reviews; 11 is fine. Orane (talkcont.) 03:37, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Just a quick note: if an album generally received positive reviews (B'day did), there is no reason not to indicate this. To be neutral is to indicate the general concensus, not to try and force a balance between positive and negative reception when the positive clearly outnumber the negative. Orane (talkcont.) 03:45, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Downtown

I appreciate the fact you clearly are a Spice Girls fan. However, infoboxes are appropriate only for the original or most famous version of a song, film, etc., otherwise articles would be cluttered with them every time a remake appeared. If you wish to add a "Downtown" infobox to Emma Bunton's article, please feel free to do so, but please do not include it in the Downtown listing again. Her version is no more significant than any of the other covers that have been recorded, and the second infobox you added, listing her single and album releases, definitely does not belong here. Thanks. SFTVLGUY2 12:31, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

The info re: Bunton's recording is included within the text and does not warrant a separate infobox per Wikipedia policy. The bulk of the info in articles about a specific song should pertain to the ORIGINAL version and this one as written adheres to the acceptable standard format. Please do not vandalize the article again or you will be blocked. Thanks! SFTVLGUY2 15:35, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I did not "threaten" you. Repeated changes to acceptable Wikipedia formats in favor of what you prefer do constitute vandalism and warrant blocking. Thank you. 15:40, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Downtown

Hi - there is a policy which bans users who use alternate accounts to malform consensus (only the "sockpuppets" can be blocked, not the sockpuppeteer (WP:SOCK). There is a process in pace to identify sockpuppets, which requires a group of users above admins. To make a request, make a request at WP:RFCU. If it is confirmed, I will block the sockpuppet account. Thanks Martinp23 21:53, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Downtown

Sorry for not replying sooner. I regret to inform you that I'm unable to find the time to monitor the situation, per the sign on my usepage. But you seem to have found other willing and free admins, so I trust that they will help you to resolve the situation. Orane (talkcont.) 22:26, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
