Does Rihanna lisp?

[edit] Song

there's this song called hotness, it has her vocals on it, which cd is it on? or is it a unreleased song from her a girl like me cd, plz someone tell me...i'm gonna put it on a girl like me article as a unreleased song...

[edit] ARGH

She's had 3 freaking UK #2's. That's fucking bittersweet, man. Either way - we should specify which songs held her off each time. I know it was that godawful Shakira song that did it for Unfaithful. (Even worse, it looks like Hips Don't Lie might sent Everytime We Touch to #2, aswell) Some help, please?

[edit] Edits

This article was extremely biased, and did not read as an encyclopedia article. I ended up removing a few paragraphs, as they offered no facts and simply praised the artist. The facts that I left in are confirmed, and I tried to keep it impartial.

I also removed the tag requesting the article to be cleaned up and made to be a higher standard of quality. The article has less content, but at least its an NPOV.

Ok..just so it is cleared up...we are not called "Barbadians." I am from Barbados and that is not out title. We are known as "Bajans" [Bay-jans] Thank you

The first sentence of the article states that Rihanna is a lip-syncer. This may be true but looks like POV: it make it seem like she has no musical ability. Clearly she can sing, and she also has writing credits. I will change this.80.189.195.142 02:52, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] R&B

Sorry, but why is Rihanna categorized asan R&B singer? What are you people smoking? Her songs are bigger hits on the Pop 100 chart than they are on the Hot 100...Also, she hasn't even had big chart entries on the R&B chart. Just because a singer is black doesn't automatically make them an R&B singer, and the same for white artists not always being pop singers...Also, none of her singes after 'Pon' have been anything but pure pop...with a touch of dancehall. 'Unfaithful' sounds like an exact carbon copy of Britney Spear's 'Everytime,' which is about as pop as you can get. If she was an R&B artist, also, then how come chr/pop stations are the ones playing her - while urban and many rhythmic shut her out and do not play her nearly as much and hardly at all. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.60.74.59 (talk • contribs).

Sorry, but can you please explain to us what you think R&B and pop are? Even the pop article says that pop can be R&B. Her first CD automatically labels her music as reggae, while her second labels her music as R&B. I don't even know why you threw the racist card out there either. And the only reason I have heard of her is BECAUSE she is played so much on my favorite R&B/hip hop radio station. If you're basing your thoughts purely on her recent single Unfaithful, then I recommend you listen to both of her CDs before YOU judge, rather than accused Wiki users of doing so. Oh, and did I mention that her record label is DEF JAM? You're freaking out over nothing. She is an R&B singer. And please sign your posts. Qorzm 06:50, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

If u read the article on "pop music", it states that pop music can be anything from rock to rock etc.

[edit] Pon de Replay

It looks to me like either a contraction of "put it on" thus "put it on the replay" or a loanword from Spanish because in Spanish pon is the informal-tú command for the verb poner "to put". "de" looks to me like a spelling of "the", or if it does come from Spanish probably "de" which can mean "of, from" --Revolución (talk) 22:00, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Pon = Upon; usage is closer to "on". Guettarda 14:42, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Where is she from???

Rihanna was born in the Carribean. Now some people say that she was just rich so her daddy got her a recording contract and she can't sing good. not true!

Her father is from Barbados and her mother is from Guyana. They are of those nationalities and ethnicities. Who ever is editing it, to "Irish Barbadian" and "black guyanese" please stop because it is false information.

I'm no geneologist, nor do I claim to know her roots, but I do know that saying someones roots is Guyanese and Barbadian is as descriptive as saying someone is Canadian, American or Brazilian. It tells you absoultuley nothing about the person race or ethnicity. Countries like barbados and guyana have many racial and ethnic groups so I understand why someone would want to outline the specfic race.

Yes, but it isn't stated as "Irish-Barbadian" or "guyanese of barbadan parentage" anywhere. The real problem is that people do not want to face that she is in fact biracial- Guyanese and Barbadian.

[edit] date of birth

Hi! Could someone check her date of birth please? In the other Wikipedias is written that she was born on the 18th. But it could also be that they had a wrong source or copyed the date from each other. So could someone look it up and correct it please. --Marc-André Aßbrock 17:48, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Could someone also check her year of birth? The first paragraph says 1989, where the sidebar says 1988. 59.167.55.3 01:28, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SOS actual UK chart position.

To whoever wrote that it went to #1 in the UK, that is incorrect. It has so far only been to #2. The #1 position is for the entire European chart, not the UK one. The reference article from Teenmusic stated that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 172.133.120.212 (talk • contribs).

[edit] Discography section

As Rihanna discography already exists, it seems unncessary to repeat it in this article. It should be removed from here and replaced with a link to her discography article. 95% of the edits to this article have been users continuously editing her chart positions and changing the formats of the tables. --Musicpvm 18:37, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Name Origin

She might be from Barbados, but her name is of Arabic origins. I was wondering if it's worth adding it to the article? Omernos 13:41, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I'd say not, unless there's some significance to it (e.g., if she has a Lebanese grandparent or something). Failing that, I'd say no. Guettarda 14:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Well the name Rihanna is ARABIC! it means Basil plant. Why would it fail to be mentioned? Omernos 21:43, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
My first name is Scottish. I have no Scottish connection. If I had a Wikipedia article, it would be irrelevant trivia. For that matter, are you sure that her name is Arabic and not just a spelling variant on Rianna? Guettarda 01:50, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes I am absolutely sure, back when she released Pon De Replay, myself and many Arabs thought she got Arab roots of someway to be having this Name. It's up to you, I just made a suggestion. Omernos 19:11, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Rihanna (or Rehanna, Rehannah and its variants) is a very common name in the Caribbean amongst females of all races.

Yes, especially in Guyana. Makes sense, since her mother is the guyanese one and probably picked it as her middle name.

[edit] A Girl Like Me Sales

I was blocked from editing a certain part of the A Girl Like Me page earlier on tonight, and would like to edit again to update the Canadian Album Chart position for this week.

I was blocked for changing sales from 640,000 to 638,099 (in the US), and just wanted to know: do all sales have to be rounded up to not be blocked? I didn't know this and I was trying to make sales more accurate.

195.93.21.73 17:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

No idea, but rounding (neither up nor down, just rounding) is normal and more accurate (since it will be "about" 640,000 for a while, while 638,099 will be inaccurate as soon as the next copy is sold. Guettarda 17:22, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, shall bare that in mind. 195.93.21.73 20:03, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rumors???

I realize that this is meant for educaitonal purposes and stuff like that but I was wondering shouldn't the rumor of her and Jay-Z be acknowledged. I mean it's on the Beyonce's Ring the Alarm page and Jay-Z's page so I'm wondering why not here?? 27 August 2006 3:52pm EST

[edit] Rihnanna's Boyfriend

Do Raihanna have a boyfriend?if yes,Who is he???(name)

[edit] Plastic surgery?!

I dunno, but her face seems to has changed, just look at the 2005 album cover at the page, or this: http://music.aol.com/artist/rihanna/704560/photos/rihanna/1368304
Anyway, i prefer the Rihanna2006. :)

DOES ANYONE KNOW HER VOCAL RANGE??????

perhaps an octave at best?

[edit] Rhianna

I have removed the reference to the 'English R&B musician Rhianna" from this article, as she is practically unheard of, even in her own country (where i am). I'm sure someone who is looking for an edit war can revert it back without a good reason. (It is a safe bet the profile of such a person will be 15-16 years old, male, means well but cannot back his arguments up with valid reasons). 15:49, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to put it back simply because it's easy to misspell either lady's name. Anthony Rupert 05:34, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] {{inappropriate tone}}

I placed this tag in the biography section mainly because of the information about beauty pageants. Anthony Rupert 15:43, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MAIN PICTURE???

why is there a pic of her playing xbox 360? lol PrincessOfHearts 21:33, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Um...why does it matter? Anthony Rupert 01:29, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

why does it matter? there can be a better picture. not a picture of her playing video games. PrincessOfHearts 20:11, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

She's not a famous videogamer, there should be a press photo or a picture of her singing. 141.217.231.62 18:21, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
How do you know that isn't a press photo? There have been press photos of artists doing everyday things, you know. Anthony Rupert 04:44, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Birthdate

Her birthdate on the beginning of the article and side column differ. 141.217.231.62 18:21, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
