Rigel VII, is a fictional planet featured in the Star Trek universe created by Gene Roddenberry. It is a Class M planet according to Star Trek planet classifications Canon (Class M is the designation for a small, rocky terrestrial world that can support human-like life because it has an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere). Rigel VII resides near the Milky Way Galaxy's center, in a star system that has at least 12 planets. Planets II, IV, V, VII, and XII are known to be inhabited. The planet has a large fortress on it used by the planet's inhabitants, the Kaylar. It was once visited by Capt. Christopher Pike of the Starship Enterprise in 2254.
The planet is noteworthy because it was the site of a violent conflict in 2254 involving a landing party from the Enterprise under Pike's command. During this conflict the landing party was attacked by Kaylar warriors native to the planet. Three crewmembers were killed, including the Captain's Yeoman. Seven others were severely injured.
[edit] Trivia
- The matte painting of the Rigel VII fortress seen in Pike's Talosian illusion was later re-used as Flint's home in the Star Trek episode Requiem for Methuselah.
