Rīga International Airport (IATA: RIXICAO: EVRA) was built in Skulte in 1973. Is located about eight miles (13km) southwest of Rīga, the capital of Latvia. It is the largest airport in the Baltic states and is directly connected to 28 countries: Sweden, Finland, Great Britain, Ireland,Germany, Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Poland, Israel, Turkey, USA, Spain, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Norway, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Egypt, Switzerland. Renovation and modernization of the Rīga International Airport ended in 2001, coinciding with Rīga's 800th anniversary. The airport is a state-owned joint-stock company, with the owner of all shares being the Latvian government. The holder of state capital share is Latvia's Ministry of Transport.In 2006 the new north terminal was opened. The airport plans to build a new terminal, able to handle about 10 million passengers a year. In autumn was opened technik hangar for planes. And it plans to build new hotels, business park, new, second pier, new big parking, second runway, new control tower, the new high-speed tramlink to the city center and new check-in hall by 2013.

Rīga International Airport is one of three notable airports in Latvia. The other two are the Liepāja International Airport and the Ventspils Airport. Rīga International Airport's biggest air carrier is airBaltic.

In 2005, the airport served 1,9 million passengers. Also due winter 2006/2007 season and summer 2007 season airport will serve about 3-10 new airlines.

Bus
Bus routes #22 and #22A(express) runs between Rīga city center and Rīga International Airport. Frequency about 10 - 30 minutes, journey time is about 30 minutes. Fare is 0.20 LVL (0.29€), for express bus it's 0.25 LVL. You will get out straight at the terminal on the 2nd level. To get on the bus at the airport look for bus stop located opposite the terminal behind the car park.

Taxi
Airport has signed contract with Riga Taxi Park. The company office is located on the 1st level of arrival area. Journey time is about 15 minutes. Fare - 0.40 LVL (for charge) + 0.35 LVL/km. Getting to city centre would cost you about 5 LVL (7€).
