Talk:Richie Evans

[edit] Got source!
I own Bones' book on Richie (got it when it first came out), so I've added a bunch of details, and I'll be adding more in the next few days. I worked as handicapper and scorer at Shangri-La 1979-86 when Richie was either a part-timer or a regular. He won at least one track championship while I was there. Barno 03:09, 19 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wasn't "modified series" until 1985
I rephrased a couple of occurrences of "National Modified Series" because, until his final year, it wasn't a touring series but a division whose weekly races at many tracks counted toward the NASCAR national title. "National Championship" races scored more points than regular events, but they were occasionally scheduled against each other at tracks a few hundred miles apart. There was no single list that the Evans/DeWitt 61, the Cook/Hollebrand 38, the Boehler 3, the Koszela 15, the Barry 21, and all other championship contenders followed, as is the case today. [edit] Added championships and wins
Nobody's been working on this page in months, so I did a bunch tonight. All his wins, and all his championships. Many of his Shangri-La wins (more there than any other speedway) were when I worked there 1979-86. Next I'm going to look for more references. I'll have to see how searchable the Stock Car Racing and Speedway Illustrated back-issue article archives are. Barno 04:53, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sadly, there was no help there. My best historical source lost his old SCR collection in a flood. I put requests out but haven't found copies. Barno 04:11, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
