He was diagnosed quite early on then - autism having been recognised not long before - and interestingly had additional physical problems - the cataracts. In the absence of his medical records or a more detailed diagnosis, it is still worth considering whether he had a constellation of conditions including or producing autism by a mechanism unlike most.
