[edit] Working...
I am working on putting up all of my information right now. I've been working on this project for a long time and I just need a few hours to put it all up on the site. -—The preceding unsigned comment was added by JenniferL 17 (talk • contribs).
[edit] inuse template?
how do i make it have an inuse template? JenniferL 17 20:26, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- {{inuse}}
Put it at the top of the article Natalie 20:29, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- We need to keep in mind that the "inuse" tag should only be used for short periods, so after some improvement is made, let's remove that. It should only remain on an article for 2-3 hours. ---Charles 21:49, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nonsense?
The speedy deletion of this page is not justified, certainly not at this point. I nearly tagged it as db-empty right after it was first created, but decided instead to encourage the author to place an inuse template on the page and go about the work of filling in the blanks and making improvements. Clearly, a great deal of work is still to be done, not least of which would be wikification, categorization, the placement of a stub-tag, etc. At this point, the content in not encyclopaedic enough, and looks more like a criticism page (which is not what we want) than a biography. However, all of that said, it is unjustified to call this nonsense. Hence, I will remove the speedy delete tag and the hang-on tag, and place some edit tags. With some cooperation, there is no reason we cannot improve this and make it encyclopaedic. Thanks. ---Charles 21:37, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah I took it off. Natalie 21:38, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] adding pictures?
I was wondering a) how can I add a picture of the author and of his works and b) how is it coming along? I still have a few more sections to add. JenniferL 17 03:54, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- This is pretty good for a first article. I have no idea about the pictures though - not my area of expertise. But it looks like you figured it out. Natalie 15:48, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] cleanup, etc.
I'm working on cleaning this up a bit. I removed some senteces discussing what happened in 1948 from his bio - seemed like the wrong place for it, and none of these seemed particularly ironic to me. (The sentences I removed: "Ironically this was the year of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, the creation of the United States Armed Forces, and the initiation of extensive missile testing in the New Mexico desert. Ironically this was a time drenched with war and power struggle and the creation of the peacetime draft. Ironically this was the year that Richard Kenney, the writer, began to grow up in.")
I rearranged the second paragraph - it seemed to be moving backwards - and removed his current teaching job, as it doesn't seem that notable of a thing. I'm not sure what to do with the influences section - I'm not thrilled about the list style. Also, I linked the magazines he's published in - the only "American Scholar" I could find is linked, so I hope it's the right one. Natalie 16:10, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I made an infobox, but I cannot get the picture to work. Gack! Natalie 16:25, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've added the picture to the infobox and resized the book cover. Looks OK in Firefox, haven't tried IE yet. Hope this helps. Bubba hotep 19:48, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, and Alf did too! Bubba hotep 19:51, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Kenney image
This still doesn't have a copyright tag on it. If someone lets me know where it came from and what the copyright status is, I will update it... before it gets deleted! Cheers. Bubba hotep 20:09, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
I think I've sorted it now. Having "glanced" through about a thousand image tags, I faithfully believe it fits the "Fair use" (in USA law) criteria. If anyone can verify this, I can sleep tonight knowing I haven't committed a felony! Bubba hotep 20:29, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
I didn't check the book cover image! The short version: it got deleted because it didn't have a licence tag on it, I found it again, re-uploaded it, tagged it correctly, and re-inserted it into the article. Phew. That was close. Bubba hotep 23:13, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] the "irony" i put in the biography
First of all, thanks to everyone for all of the help! The page is looking really nice.
I put the whole irony thing in there just because what happened in his life happens to be the subject matter of his writing...war, evolution, the progression of science, etc. I think you're right, though; the site looks cleaner and more proffesional now. Again, thanks a bunch!! JenniferL 17 21:49, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Ah. That makes sense. Maybe the world events that influenced his writing could be discussed in the sections on the books? Natalie 05:11, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
