The Rickmers Reederei is a shipping company and shipbuilding company that was founded in 1834 by R.C. Rickmers in Bremerhaven, Germany; it is currently in its fifth generation and is headed by Bertram R.C. Rickmers. The Rickmers Reederei runs a fleet consisting of over 55 vessels, with 70 container ships having been built since 1984.

In 1831, Rickmer Clasen Rickmers sailed to Bremerhaven, Germany from his native Helgoland with his new wife Etha, and there he formed the Rickmers Reederei. In 1834 the first shipyard was opened on the Geeste River, under the motto "Fear God - do right - be afraid of no man." In 1836, R.C. Rickmers' first vessel, the "Catharina," a barge commissioned by a Captain Lenthe from the city of Geestendorf. Following a series of investments and business deals, the Rickmers Reederei began to obtain more ships as well as building them, and the company began to flourish. In 1844, a whaling ship called the "Bremen" was completed, which was the company's first fully rigged vessel. Then in 1848 the "Bassermann" was completed and became the first vessel to sail under the red, green, and white Rickmers flag.
