Rick Suhr (pronounced shur) is a pole vaulting coach in Rochester, New York. A number of his students have won national titles for pole vaulting, including Dan Tierney and Tiffany Maskulinski. He founded Suhr Conditioning Systems in 1993 and built an indoor pole vault training facility behind his home in 1998. The business later became known as Suhr Sports. There he teaches students an "eastern European" style of pole vaulting during private lessons or summer camps. His students have consisted mainly of high school and college aged students.
During high school, Suhr was on the wrestling team for the Spencerport Central School district. He earned All-County honors in wrestling for two years, New York State Section V champion for two years and NYS finalist in 1986. He has been inducted into the Spencerport Athletic Hall of Fame.[1]
