Richmond High School is a public high school located in Richmond, California, USA. It is part of the West Contra Costa Unified School District.
In 1999, its basketball team, the Oilers, while having a winning streak, was prevented by its own coach from playing any further games due to the poor grades of its members. Though the members of the team had signed written contracts that they had to keep their grades up, the act of suspending the team subsequently drew national media attention. The players were able to lift their grades up eventually, and the events of this along with the coach Ken Carter were the subject of the movie Coach Carter.
Richmond High's students have also in recent years been vocal against the California High School Exit Exam, which starting with the class of 2006 is mandatory for graduation. The students have filed a lawsuit against the state of California over this.
