Richmond (cigarette)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Richmond cigarettes (John Player) are a value brand of tobacco cigarettes introduced into UK markets around 2000. They come in the usual varieties (King Size, Smooth, Superking (100mm)) and also a menthol variety. The brand primarily is in competition at the bottom end of the market, against popular value UK cigarette brands such as Mayfair, Sovreign, Park Road, etc. It is the second-best selling cigarette brand in the UK, after Lambert and Butler, which, like Richmond, are produced by Imperial Tobacco. The majority of the customers for this brand are low-budget, as it is cheaper than many others. For this reason many smokers consider them an inferior brand. They are characterised by the bright blue packaging, which recently (July 2006) underwent a redesign: the serif font used being replaced for a more modern sans-serif, and general appeareance becoming more minimalist.
