Richard Seymour (born October 6, 1979) is a defensive lineman who plays for the New England Patriots in the National Football League.

Richard Seymour attended Lower Richland High School in Hopkins, South Carolina.In football, he played as a two-way lineman, won first team All-Region honors,won first team All-Area honors, and as a senior, was voted the teams' best Defensive Lineman, and the Team Captain, won an All-Area Player of the Week award, led his team to four All-Area Team of the Week honors,and finished the season with 8 sacks and 83 tackles.

Seymour played football for Georgia, and was subsequently drafted by the Patriots in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He was listed in 2004 as weighing 310 pounds (22 stone), and wore the number 93. He has been selected to four consecutive NFL Pro Bowls, three consecutive AP all-pro teams, and is regarded as one of the best defensive linemen in the game. His hallmark is his versatility, as he is capable of playing 4-3 defensive tackle, 3-4 defensive end, and 3-4 nose tackle all at a high level. He has gone to the pro-bowl both as a 4-3 DT and a 3-4 DE.

In April 2006, Seymour signed a four-year contract extension which will keep him with the Patriots until 2010 unless released. Seymour suffered a personal tragedy a few years ago when his father, Richard Seymour, Sr., murdered his girlfriend, and then himself in Hopkins, SC.
