Richard G. Scott

Richard Gordon Scott, born November 7, 1928 in Pocatello, Idaho, was sustained to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 1, 1988 and was ordained an apostle on October 6, 1988 following the death of Marion G. Romney.

Elder Scott serves as Chairman of the Executive Committee and Member of the Church Board of Education that governs the Church Educational System.

Previous to being an apostle, Elder Scott was a nuclear engineer who did advanced studies at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the Department of Energy. He studied at George Washington University. (Source: Official biography)

Elder Scott grew up in Washington D.C., served a mission to Uruguay as a young man, and later returned to South America to serve as president of the Argentina North Mission.
