Richard Bannister
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Richard Bannister is a programmer of emulation software for the Mac OS X platform. He currently maintains twenty-eight different emulators, including original projects and ports from other platforms.
All of Bannister's ports are compatible with Emulator Enhancer, a shareware module created by him to add additional features, such as joystick support and full-screen mode. This, coupled with his tendency to port GPL programs and then release his ports under closed-source licenses (not a GPL violation as he receives explicit exemption from the copyright holders, but a fairly atypical practice), has made him a somewhat controversial figure in the emulation and FOSS communities.
Bannister also is responsible for the programs Audio Overload, a video game music player, Cacophony, an audio editing application, and Brain Box, a set of games. During the 1990s, Bannister developed several shareware arcade games for the Apple Macintosh platform, including Space Debris, Space Chaos, Smashing Windows II and Zap 'T' Balls; these are all now discontinued. He currently resides in Dublin, Ireland.
[edit] Education
In June 2002, Bannister was awarded an Honours B.A. degree in Information & Communications Technology from Trinity College in Dublin.
