Riccardo Zanella

Riccardo Zanella was the last elected president of the short lived Free State of Fiume. His served in office from 5 October 1921 until to 4 March 1922 when his term was cut short due to Italian occupation. Italy formally annexed the territory on 16 March 1924. Following World War II Zanella demanded the restoration of the Free State as a sovereign entity, but failed to gain public support for his idea.
