Ricardo Mello is a Brazilian tennis player. His preference is for the clay court where he has won his best titles. He has had the occasional win in hard court tournaments. He has been at the top of Brazilian tennis along with Marcos Daniel and Gustavo Kuerten for a considerable period and is now considered to be in his prime. His best singles rank was 50th in 2005. He has won a single tournament on the pro tour and plays most of his tennis in futures.

Ricardo was born in the city of Campinas, Brazil and it was there at the age of 3 he started to play tennis. Campins is a one hour drive from the famous Brazilian city of San Paulo.
[edit] Beginnings of his Career
At the age of 15 he drew a wildcard into a tournament in his hometown of Campinas. He lost this tournament to veteran and once French Open winner Gustavo Kuerten. However he gained his first ATP career points. In 1999 Ricardo won his first futures in Uruguay and Paraguay.

Ricardo played number one seed Andrew Murray. Andy was in control of the first set winning 6-1, but Mello turned it round, winning the second set 6-1. Ricardo took the 3rd and final set and he had 3 set points before losing in the tie-break 7-5. The final score was 1-6, 6-1, 6-7 (5-7).

In the first round Ricardo faced Jean-Rene Lisnard whom he bet in straight sets 7-5, 7-5, in what was a tough game for both of them. In the second round he faced 14th seed Vincent Spadea and lost rather easily 6-3, 6-1.
