Edgar Ricardo Arjona Morales, known as Ricardo Arjona [Pronounced / arhona / ] , was born January 19, 1964 in Antigua Guatemala, and is an acclaimed Guatemalan singer incorporating political and social satire.

Ricardo Arjona is a singer, songwriter, and composer born in Antigua Guatemala on January 19, 1964. When he was three, he moved to Guatemala City.
He learned to play the guitar by the age of eight. He played basketball on the Guatemalan national team, holding the record for most points scored in a single game. From 1983 to 1988 he worked as a teacher with low-income students. He then moved to Mexico where he lived for several years. He currently resides in Miami, USA.
Arjona is best known for his songs' intricate wordplay and not for any particular genre (though he is usually categorized as Spanish Pop). Most of his albums vary widely in both genre and vocal delivery.

[edit] ASCAP Latin Heritage Award
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) celebrated its 14th Annual Latin Music Awards on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California. The 2006 Pop Music Awards honored the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP’s most performed songs in Latin Music of 2005. ASCAP’s Latin Music Awards is one of the most attended and celebrated events in the Latin entertainment community.
One of the evening’s highlights was the presentation of the ASCAP Latin Heritage Award to Ricardo Arjona. This is one of the most prestigious honors that the Society bestows upon its members, and was given to Arjona for his outstanding contribution to Latin music. Past recipients include Antonio Aguilar, Celia Cruz, José Feliciano, Ednita Nazario, Arturo Sandoval, Gilberto Santa Rosa and Olga Tañón.
The singer-songwriter tradition of social and interpersonal commentary remains robust around the world, and in Latin America, Ricardo Arjona is a part of that tradition. Arjona is one of the most respected poets, performers and songwriters in Latin America.

The 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards aired live on the Univision Television Network on Thursday, November 2, 2006. The show, held in Nueva York for the very first time, took place at Madison Square Garden.
Guatemalan-born Ricardo Arjona nabbed nominations for Record of The Year, Song of The Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Album for "Adentro." He won his first Latin Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Album.
