Ricaine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ricaine was a rock band from Melbourne, Australia, that released several albums. The group was made up of Neil Thomason (guitar and vocals), Brett O'Rielly (bass and vocals) and Tom Jackman (drums).

The trio played its first show at the Evelyn Hotel, Fitzroy, on the 5th December 1994, followed by a debut release in early 1995 in way of split 7" with Baseball aka Cameron Potts.

Their first CD offering took shape after playing only 6 shows together, the result, "intore: the cold grey rain" was born out of a single recording and comprizes the cherries of that session.

1996 saw their first full length album, "Regret is an Inevitable Consequence of Life", released. By this time the band was touring nationally on a frequent basis.

1997 saw the group spend a month in the United States, playing shows in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, as well as the South By South West music conference in Austin, Texas. While in Chicago they spent a week recording their second full-length release, The Clarity of Distance, with US engineer Bob Weston of Shellac fame.

Following the release and subsequent touring to promote "The Clarity of Distance" the band decided a break was long overdue and all three members took time off only to become involved in an inevitable spate of side projects.

By 1999 the band was recording again, resulting in the "Silence is the New Sound"‚ four track CD ep, released July 2000.

Ricaine played their final live show in 2001, later releasing a final full length album "Urbanity"‚ through Unstable Ape records.
