Ric Lansing

Richard "Ric" Lansing is a fictional character on the hit ABC soap General Hospital. Ric came to Port Charles in 2002 as the estranged half-brother of mob boss Sonny Corinthos. The character has been played by Rick Hearst since 2002. Ric quickly proved himself to be a manipulative and sometimes troubled character. He blamed Sonny because their mother, Adela, chose to raise Sonny and to give baby Ric to his father and stepmother to be raised. Ric's father, Trevor Lansing, had blamed Sonny for pushing his pregnant mother down the stairs and said he didn't want Sonny in his household. Adela chose to give up Ric and to keep Sonny. Ric, a highly successful lawyer, came to Port Charles with the intention of getting even with Sonny. He ultimately abducted Sonny's pregnant wife Carly Corinthos and kept her chained to a wall in a panic room, all the while intending to raise Sonny's and Carly's son as his own with his wife Elizabeth Webber. Elizabeth miscarried her child with Ric after a fall down the stairs, which Ric blamed on Sonny (it was almost two years before Faith Rosco, Ric's ex-lover, confessed on her deathbed to the deed). Carly was ultimately rescued from the panic room, but not before Sonny accidentally shot her in the head while she was giving birth to their son Morgan. Sonny spared Ric's life for their dead mother's sake and Ric's crimes were ultimately blamed on a mental break-down. Elizabeth divorced him. Ric later became involved with and married fellow lawyer, Alexis Davis, after discovering that Sonny was the father of her daughter Kristina Corinthos-Davis. He intended to use this information to his advantage. Later, though, he discovered that he had true feelings for Alexis and the couple had a baby girl, Molly Lansing. Ric has treated Kristina as his own child, often calls her "my daughter" and has vowed to protect her. Kristina calls him "Daddy Ric." However, perhaps remembering his mother's choice of Sonny over himself, Ric also feels that Alexis favors Sonny's daughter Kristina over their daughter, Molly. He recently swore to protect Molly from this perceived favoritism. Ric has appeared to be reformed in the last year, but now he is showing signs of his old manipulative ways. He attemped to use Sonny's bipolar disorder to his own advantage, gaslighted his half-brother and tried to make him think he was imagining things. He is currently in cahoots with Lorenzo Alcazar to kill Sonny and his right-hand man Jason Morgan. Ric also recently slept with a drunken Samantha "Sam" McCall, the daughter Alexis gave up for adoption as a teenager. Sam is, perhaps not so coincidentally, also one of Sonny's ex-lovers, as well as the biological half-sister of Ric's own daughter Molly. Alexis is aware of their affair, but kept silent about it for a time after she was diagnosed with lung cancer. If she dies, she wants Kristina and Molly to be raised together and felt that leaving them with Ric and Sam is the best of a series of imperfect choices. However, she recently blew up at Ric for sleeping with her daughter and ordered him out of the house. Ric wants custody of Molly, but Alexis told him "better men than him have tried" to take away one of her daughters.
