Rhododendron, Oregon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rhododendron is an unincorporated community in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. It is located within the Mt. Hood Corridor, between Government Camp and Zigzag along U.S. Route 26 (aka the Mt. Hood Scenic Byway). It is one of the communities that make up the Villages at Mt. Hood.
According to Oregon Geographic Names, a post office was established in the area in 1909 and named "Rowe", after a mayor of Portland, Oregon, Henry S. Rowe. The community was renamed Rhododendron in 1920, (after being named "Zig Zag" and "Zigzag", a name that was then reused for the current community of Zigzag) because of the large number of rhododendrons growing near there.
