The RFS Vladimir Monomakh (Russian: АПЛ Владимир Мономах) is a Russian submarine of the fourth generation Borei class (Project 955) currently under construction. It is named after Vladimir Monomakh (1053-1125), the Grand Duke of Kievan Rus'. The project was developed by the Rubin Design Bureau, and the chief designer is Sergey Kovalev. The keel was laid down on March 19, 2006 in the Sevmashpredpriyatiye shipyard in Severodvinsk. The submarine is going to be armed with 12 of the newest submarine-launched ballistic missile developed in Russia, the Bulava (NATO designation SS-NX-30). The Vladimir Monomakh and its sister ships are going to replace the aging Delta class in the Russian Navy.
