RFC 2822

RFC 2822 is an IETF Request for Comments document, released in April 2001 defining the format of SMTP email. It obsoleted the previous standard, RFC 822, which had been released on August 13, 1982.


An example of a date formatted according to RFC 2822 looks like:

Mon, 15 Aug 2005 15:21:01 -0500
