Reyðarfjörður

Reyðarfjörður is a town located 30km southeast of Egilsstaðir, Iceland. The town sits at the head of the largest fjord in the east coast of Iceland (or the same name). From the early 20th century, Reyðarfjörður had been used as a trading port. It was one of the Allied bases in Iceland during the World War II. The town has about 900 inhabitants.
Reyðarfjörður is the biggest fjord on the East side of Iceland. It is 30km long and 7km wide.
The controversial Alcoa aluminium smelting plant will be built 3km northwest of the town and expected to be completed in 2007.
