Revolution (political group)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Revolution, a revolutionary socialist youth international, was founded in the UK by Workers Power and although it is closely linked to the group is politically independent with its own leadership. Until October 2006, it had groups in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Australia and Indonesia.
It was formed in the mid 90's at the beginning of the anti-capitalist movement in Europe. Interventions into the EuroMarches in Amsterdam and support for the Liverpool Dockers strike were amongst the its first campaigns. Now the group intervenes heavily into the anti capitalist movement and anti war movements. It has raised the slogan for a Youth International to come out of the European Social Forum and World Social Forum bodies to unite the struggles of young people against globalisation and imperialism.
In 2006, following a split in the League for the Fifth International (to which Workers Power is affiliated), independent members of Revolution formed a tendency called "Independent Revolution" or iRevo.[1]. This was on the tail of the 2006 Revolution International Delegates Conference, where the Australian section of Revolution was desectionalised following a resolution supported only by the L5I delegates present at conference.
The iRevo tendency was expelled from Revolution in October, 2006.
