Revanta

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Revanta is a minor Hindu-deity. According to the Rig-Veda, Revanta is the son of Surya, and his wife Sanjna (Saranya). Sanjna, unable to take the fervour of the Sun God, repaired to the forests to engage in devout austerities in the form of a Mare. Surya noticed her and approached her disguised as a horse. This union produced the Asvins and Revanta. Revanta is chief of the Guhyakas, and is also called Haya-Vahana. Images and sculptures of Revanta often show him as a huntsman on a horse, with a bow and arrow.
