Reus Airport (IATA: REU, ICAO: LERS) is located between the towns of Constantí and Reus, province of Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain). It stands approximately 3 km outside the town of Reus and 13 km from Tarragona, next to the beaches of the Costa Daurada.
Ryanair now fly into Reus from Luton Airport, Stansted Airport, Liverpool Airport, Dublin Airport and Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. From March 2006 they are also introducing a new service from Glasgow Prestwick.
This influx of flights has led to passenger numbers at the airport increasing quite dramatically. In 1995 around 500,000 passengers passed through the airport. In 2004 this number more than doubled to 1.1 million and the 2005 estimates are coming in at 1.4 million.
This increase in passenger numbers has led to several ongoing improvements at the airport. There is a new arrivals hall that is already fully operational. The departures terminal is being re-developed with a nice new check in area already finished.
A lot of people flying into Reus head for the beach resorts of Salou and Cambrils. The airport is also not that far away from one of Europe's largest theme parks, Port Aventura. Alternatively, other nearby vacational targets are the Mountains of Prades, a muntainous mediterranean forest in the comarca of Baix Camp, perfect for hiking and discovering the eclesiastic heritage of the monasteries of La Ruta del Císter. The Priorat, a neighbor region, is specially known due to the quality of its wines.
Barcelona is the other reason people fly into Reus Airport. The airport is about 80 km to the south of Barcelona and can easily be reached by train, bus or hire car.
[edit] Transport at Reus Airport
There are currently 3 bus routes from the Airport. One bus goes directly to Barcelona, another runs on circuit between the Airport - La Pineda - Salou - Cambrills and back to the airport again. The last route goes directly into Tarragona City.
The bus timetables vary slightly throughout the year but the buses are laid on to coincide with the flight arrivals and departures. As there are only a limited number of flights arriving and departing each day this system works quite well.
Taxis can be found directly outside the main arrivals hall and you should expect to pay €18 for a taxi into say Tarragona or Salou.
If hiring a car appeals, there are four car-hire companies based in the arrivals terminal at Reus: Hertz, Avis, Europcar and Auriga.
